More Hellebores

Ok, I know I'm obsessing a bit about these flowers, but I just had to show you some more hellebores. Look! I've made a discovery - a new pale pink one in our garden. I was very happy to find this beauty!

Here's another really pale one that's gone to seed. I love the mix of pink and green in the petals, and their translucency.

This round-petalled white one has gorgeous mauve speckles at its centre.

With their clearly-defined edges, the pale ones remind me of fine bone china.

I also discovered this pointy-petalled bloom which looks like a star.

This one is at the opposite end of the colour-spectrum to the pale one, and is a dark, dramatic plum.

Don't they contrast well with each other?

And here is a totally gratuitous photo of lots - I couldn't resist.

Finally, a bowl of hellebores with my purple tulips - I think they go quite well together. At the risk of being a helle-bore (see what I did there?) I shall show you my needlefelted and crocheted ones in another post (about something different).

See you soon x

  1. Since you first mentioned hellebores, I've been noticing them in other people's gardens. They really are quite special - I think I may have to add them to my garden wish list! Have a good weekend. x

  2. Gorgeous! I love how different each one is from the other. Tulips are my favourites - I had them in my wedding bouquet :)

  5. They certainly bring colour to your garden, I have not grown them, but will have to look at their growing conditions and add to garden if they will fit in.

    1. They seem to like soil which retains moisture well, and thrive in our front garden. They don't seem to need shade and are happy in full sun. Hope you are able to grow some too :)

  8. I love hellebores too, they have a quiet and understated beauty. I hadn't thought of displaying them in a bowl, might pick a few blooms later and do the same.
Thanks for a very enjoyable read.

  11. Oh! Oh these have to be in my top three flowers. I've made them in silver, in woven wire and tiny pearls combined with stiffened embroidery and I'm v keen to make Attic24's crochet versions. The real things are just the bee's pyjamas though. I adore the ones with the speckles especially.

  12. They're exquisite aren't they, so subtle, not at all garish like some spring flowers. The white one is my favourite, the speckles remind me of birds' eggs. CJ xx

    1. Yes, I agree - those speckles are very egg-like, aren't they? And their colour-palette is very rich in among the fresh, bright blues, purples and yellows of spring :)
