Autumn Gardening (or maybe not)

Now that the clocks have gone back, the chance to garden after work has pretty much disappeared. As a result, my rather wet drippy garden is looking quite messy and sorry for itself in places. I haven't had time to weed, clear up leaves and generally tidy, as I usually do at this time of year. However, the plans I had of doing so today will have to be postponed (again), as it's pouring with rain and not set to change. Therefore I'm going to ignore the mess and concentrate on what's been looking good this week.

I've noticed that a lot of autumn flowers are a deep pink or purple, and this is no exception. My parents gave me this sedum, or ice plant, in September and it's been flowering away and looking rather lovely.

I also have an ornamental cabbage in a pot which combines the most gorgeous colour with looking like something I should be cooking!

My pelargoniums have finished flowering, so I'm going to tuck them up in the shed for the winter and hope they'll survive till next summer, as it won't be long before the first frost comes.

And in preparation for spring I've planted some rather unusual-sounding apricot-coloured daffodils,

as well as some scented narcissi mixed with tulips.

It's good to make preparations for next year as garden activity winds down for autumn and winter. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that at some point soon I can sweep up some of the leaves that are lying in drifts along our front path and all over the back garden. They look pretty, but there's an awful lot of them!
Right, I'm off to do a bit of crochet and baking in the warm and dry before we head out to do the shopping.

Have a good Saturday, whatever you're doing x

    1. I agree - I'm used to ice plants being a bit lighter in shade, so I was pleased with this one :) x

  4. I must admit to tiptoeing into the garden today and leaving again - rain and bitterly cold breeze. I don't do well in the cold! So I see knitting and crochet and a very acceptable alternative! My sedum sadly got flattened by someone else (suspect either husband or dog, both had guilty looks on their faces) but it usually gives a good display this time of year :)

    1. Oh dear! Mine's in a pot because they don't seem to like our soil very much. I've planted a few over the years and none have survived, so I might keep this one in our back yard area :) x
