A November Resolution

I'm beginning to feel a little bit Christmassy now, and I've been thinking about making some creative preparations. This year, however, I am determined not to be too ambitious about what I think I can make before the big day comes. It's always the same. I get out my yarn, felt, ribbons, trimmings, sparkly thread, glitter etc and begin several 'small', 'manageable' projects. I then proceed to panic as the month wears on and I can't get everything finished in time.

This year This Will Not Happen:
  • I will not try to make all of our cards and gift tags myself
  • Or wrapping paper (one year I made it all by stamping gold and silver paint onto brown paper).
  • I will not decide to make exquisite sweets and chocolates to give as gifts
  • Or attempt to crochet, knit or sew every friend and relation a thoughtful, hand-made present
  • I will not become feverishly inspired by TV programmes such as 'Kirsty's Homemade Christmas', and start to make tree decorations and wreaths as well
No. I will be sensible, and curb my festive, creative urges. I have made a November Resolution.

I will plan a few small items, make them and then stop. In this way the month of December will not fly past in a mad whirl, and I will be able to appreciate the festive season in a more relaxed way.

Good, glad I've got that all sorted :)

  1. Hi Cathy! This sounds like a great idea - November and December just become way too frantic for me. A few years ago my family decided to spend Christmas away from extended family up the coast, and just eat lots of delicious food and get presents organised before the end of December. It has made our Christmas so much more relaxing!
    Take care,

  2. Hello! I found your blog via one of your comments on 'Mias Landiv' and have really enjoyed flicking back through your posts. I few of them rang bells - the vase of knitting needles (although, I'm sadly lacking any gorgeous 'toadstool' ones!) and making a blanket for a uni child. My eldest is in her final year now and I made her a blanket to take with her when she first went up - I think it's a mothering thing isn't it? Trying to keep them warm and safe, even when they are away from home. Good luck with your Christmas preparations. x

    1. Hello from one Veggie Mummy to another - thank you for visiting! Yes, my eldest is also in her final year at Uni, and I managed to get her blanket finished before she went. I've been a bit slower with second child 's. He's been there two months already! By the way, the spotty knitting needles are Art Viva needles from here

  3. I have been resolving the same things this year. Often I am feeling so stressed by mid December, this year I am determined to keep things simple, spend less and get organised early so that I can appreciate the good things about the Christmas season without the worry.
Each year I decide to start on the homemade gifts in about August but never manage it!

  4. D'you know I have the same fervish-make-it-itus every November and December and fail miserably. I'd made a similar plan this year to calm down and be a bit more selective, well that is the plan, however, I can feel the make-it-itus rearing it's ugly head again !!

Your resolution sounds brilliant. I love your vase of knitting needles, and your gorgeous yarn, especially the ball of assorted blues.

  9. I've actually made the same resolution. This year I've decided to make only one or two presents and decorations. This way I can just enjoy the days before Christmas instead of worrying if I can finish everything on time.
Hope you're having a lovely week!
